Mariana Bueno, PhD RN

Dr. Bueno is a PhD prepared Registered Nurse building a research program centred on pain in neonates and infants, focused on generating and synthesizing research evidence, and developing and evaluating dissemination and implementation strategies to improve health outcomes of neonates, infants and their families.

Currently, Dr. Bueno is an Assistant Professor at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, at the University of Toronto. She has also held faculty positions at the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2012-2014), and the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo (2014-2017), both in Brazil.

Dr. Bueno earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2006 and PhD in 2011, both from the School of Nursing of the University of São Paulo. She served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Stevens Lab at the Hospital for Sick Children, from 2017 and 2021.

She is currently a Pain Scientist and a member of the Executive Committee of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain (UTCSP) and a co-chair of the Pain in Child Health (PICH) - Global Research Training. She is also a member of several professional associations, including the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), the Canadian Pain Society, and the Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses.
